Tresa Grauer, Ph.D.

Tresa Grauer has devoted much of her professional life to exploring Jewish tradition and identity through education and community work. She has a strong background in organizational communications and worked for many years as a freelance academic editor.

Grauer has taught Jewish American literature as well as feminist and cultural studies, with special attention to the meaning of Jewish identity in contemporary American culture, at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.  Most recently, she served as board chair and lead parent at Project Learn School, a progressive, cooperative K-8 school community in Philadelphia that emphasizes child-centered, creative education and consensual decision-making. In a horizontally organized school with no principal, she facilitated the administrative committee and all-school town meetings, founded the school’s strategic planning committee, addressed process and program development, and served as liaison between parents and staff. Grauer’s administrative work within the Jewish community has included a position at the Religion Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C., where she helped coordinate education and advocacy activities.

She also has taught in the women’s studies and American studies programs at Temple University and has been a visiting assistant professor in the departments of English, Judaic studies and women’s studies at the University of Michigan.

Grauer lived in Israel for more than a decade. Her Bachelor of Arts, master’s degree and Ph.D. in English language and literature are from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
